Description
The conflict caused by radical Islamist group Boko Haram has entered its fifth year in North-Eastern Nigeria and neighboring countries to Nigeria. Acts of violence have forced nearly 2.4 million people to leave their homes in Nigeria and other countries in the Lake Chad basin. The humanitarian situation is worsened by food insecurity. As many as three million people are estimated to be at the risk of malnutrition. Due to weak security situation, humanitarian aid cannot be delivered to certain regions. The UNHCR focuses on the protection of refugees and finding durable solutions by increasing livelihood opportunities, for instance.
