UN Women Women, Peace and Security in the Arab States - Phase II, Libya support

Description

Finland has support UN Women's programme on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in North Africa and the Middle East since 2015. The programme supports the effective resourcing, monitoring and implementation of four National Action Plans (Tunisia, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq) and one regional action plan (the Arab League). In addition Finland has support the work of UN Women in Libya and is currently supporting the work of the organization in Syria. The regional programme focuses on countering violent extremism and building community trust. Finland's original contribution for 2019 - 2021 was EUR 3 900 000. With additional funding aimed towards Lebanon, the overall contribution stands at EUR 4 500 000. This second additional contribution to the regional programme is directed towards support of UN Women's work in Libya but within the framework of the regional programme. The results of the support towards Libya contribute to the overall results of the regional programme. In terms of administrative resources, the allocation of additional funds towards Libya within the framework of the regional programme makes also sense. The Agreement between UN Women and the MFA will be updated to reflect the added contributions and their implications on the overall results and programme document have also been captured in the updated version of the document, which will be annexed to the updated Agreement.
