INT/UN Desertification Convention; Finland's assessed contribution
Description
The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) which entered into force in 1996 is a legally binding international agreement combining sustainable land use, environment and development issues. UNCCD is one of the so-called Rio environmental conventions, and it aims to combat desertification and mitigate the effects of drought, particularly in Africa. Currently, there are 196 state parties to the convention. Finland ratified the Convention in 1995. The UNCCD Conference of the Parties (COP) which meets every two years determines each contracting party's contribution to the core budget by applying the United Nations burden-sharing policy. The contributions for the years 2018 and 2019 were determined by the 13th COP in Ordos (China) in September 2017. Finland's share of the core budget was determined to be 0.445 percent which means EUR 33 712 in the year 2018.
