UN Voluntary Fund for Technical Cooperation in the field of human rights
Description
In the year 2019 Finland supports with a sum of 2 300 000 euros the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Technical Co-operation in the Field of Human Rights (VFTC). Through the fund most of OHCHR's support at the country level as well as regional level human rights work is funded. The objective of the Fund is to provide financial support for international cooperation aimed at building up and strengthening national and regional institutions and infrastructures that will have long-term impact on improved implementation of international human rights standards. Projects include development of national legislation to implement international human rights norms, the establishment of national human rights institutions, human rights education and the development of national human rights plans and programs. To achieve most efficiency, the fund focuses on support to selected OHCHR offices, human rights experts in UN country teams as well as to strengthen the human rights components of UN peacekeeping missions. A Board of Trustees provides expert advice and support for the Voluntary Fund.
