OHCHR; Promotion of the flagship projects of the Human Rights Strategy of the Finnish Foreign Service; women's rights, gender equality

In accordance with the priorities of the Government's report on Development Policy, the Government's Human Rights Report and the Human Rights Strategy of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and its Action Plan and the UN strategy of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, it is proposed to support the work of a regional gender adviser in the regional office of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Addis Ababa in 2020. The gender adviser’s work focuses on Djibouti and Ethiopia, as well as cooperation with the AU, the UNECA and Regional Economic Communities. Support has been be extended to other countries in the sub-region (Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda) as relevant. The work of the gender advisor will focus primarily on the realization of three thematic priorities in accordance with the OHCHR's Annual Appeal 2020 and Management Plan (OPM) which goes through the end of 2021: 1) strengthening the effectiveness of international human rights mechanisms; 2) integrating human rights in development and the economic sphere; 3) early warning and protection of human rights in situations of conflict, violence and insecurity.
