UNU WIDER-Institute annual contribution
Description
The objective of the project is to support research on the global development issues. UNU-WIDER conducts multi-disciplinary research and analyses global problems and potential solutions to them. The research programme 2019-23 consists of three themes: economies, states and societies. The subthemes support the realisation of the Agenda 2030. The research has three main audiences, namely the decision-makers in the developing countries, the donor agencies and the research community. The UNU-WIDER budget has been about 10 million annually. The funding consists of core contributions of the donor countries, income from the Endowment Fund and project funding. The main donors are Finland, Sweden and Great Britain. The Finnish core contribution to UNU-WIDER research programme is 1,4 million euros. In addition, Finland is obliged to finance technical costs based on the host country agreement. The projected cost is 0,4-0,5 m€ annually. If funds remain after actual paid technical costs, these will be used for country level capacity building and information dissemination purposes under an additional contract. Total financing is 9.680.000 € covering five year period.
