GTK/Strengthening the Mastering of Natural Resources, phase 2
Description
The Geological Survey has carried out Finnish-funded development cooperation projects in Central Asian countries since 2008. Two of the projects have been implemented in cooperation with the State Committee of Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCIESU, formerly SAGMR). The currently planned IKI project “Strengthening the Mastering of Natural Resources for National Welfare in the Kyrgyz Republic, Phase II” is a follow-up to the first phase of the project, which was carried out in 2014-2019. The project has been supporting the development of natural disaster risk management, a modernized geodata collection and distribution, as well as the monitoring of groundwater resources. Due to the cuts in development cooperation funds, the exit phase of the project, a key element regarding the sustainability of the results, had to be cancelled. The aim now is to continue the work that was begun during the first phase of the project and by doing this, to ensure the sustainability of the results. The budget of the project is EUR 905 000 to the project, and the duration is three years (2020 - 2022). The project contributes to Finland's development policy priority number IV "Sustainable use of natural resources".
