UNFPA Somalia Wellbeing of Women and Girls
Description
The overall objective of UN Population Fund (UNFPA) Somalia's country programme is to improve the wellbeing of Somali people, particularly women and girls, by ensuring their sexual and reproductive rights as well as by reducing maternal mortality and gender-based violence. Based on the UNFPA's Strategic Positioning Note, the country programme aims to achieve this through four result areas which are the following: 1) Strengthening the Somali statistical systems and promoting evidence-based planning and policy design; 2) Supporting the provision of sexual, reproductive, maternal and neonatal health care and promoting reproductive rights; 3) Promoting human rights, gender equality, and strengthening Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response; and 4) Strengthening the realization of Somali youth and teenagers through supporting the implementation of the Somali Youth Strategy. Finland has supported the implementation of the UNFPA Somalia country programme with 8 million euros, covering the period of 2017-2020. In 2020 Finland supports the UNFPA Somalia country programme with an addittional 2 million euros.
