PROMOSERV 3 - Promoting Modernisation of Hydrometeorological Services in Vietnam
Description
The targeted impact of the Promoserv 3 project is to improve the weather services available in Vietnam. The project aims primarily to increase the capacity of the Meteorological and Hydrological Administration of Viet Nam (VNMHA) to provide better early warning systems and hydrometeorogical services for Vietnamese people. Due to climate change, the number and severity of natural hazards is increasing.Vietnam is naturally risk prone and is affected particularly by tropical cyclones, floods and landslides. By focusing on improvements in the early warning systems and hydrometeorological services, it is possible to reduce the loss of human life and property associated with the natural disasters, which frequently affect Vietnam. The Project is implemented by VNMHA together with the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The project also includes cooperation with the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Lao PDR. The project will be implemented in 2019-2022 and the overall budget is 650 000 euros. Promoserv is the third phase of ICI cooperation between the implementing institutions. The previous phases, Promoserv1 and Promoserv2, were evaluated in 2017. The final evaluation found that the projects had achieved their targets well, and the activities were efficient and relevant. The technologies and solutions introduced in the the previous phases have either been implemented on full scale or their elements have been incorporated in others in larger-scale investment projects that have succeeded the previous Promoserv phases.
