Humanitarian Assistance; UNHCR; Democratic Republic of Congo
The humanitarian situation in DRC is severe and has since 2019 as a result of new violent clashes and an ebola outbreak that has been the second worst in modern history. There are approximately 4.5 million internally displaced persons in DRC and over 890,000 refugees have fled to neighboring countries. The UNHCR delivers emergency kits to those forcibly displaced and advocates for increased inclusion of IDPs and refugees in the national system. Continuous underfunding of the DRC operation makes it difficult for the UNHCR to focus on long-term projects instead of lifesaving assistance.
