Support to the Water Services Trust Fund (WSTF)
Description
Finland has suppored Kenya's Water Services Trust Fund (WSTF) with 10,5 million euros between 2009 and 2019. The total budget for 2014-19 is 17,3 MEUR, of which Finland's share is 7 MEUR. The programme is co-funded by the governments of Kenya, Finland and Sweden. The objective of the programme is to improve sustainable access to clean water by financing the water and sanitation services as well as to support water resources management at the local level through WSTF. WSTF has the mandate and duty to finance development of water services and sanitation in underserved rural and urban areas and to manage water resources in areas where they are under threat owing to human acticity and climate change. Finland's support to WSTF is directed towards projects managed by rural communities themselves, increasing local ownership and strengthening communities' capacity to manage their water resources. With Finnish support counties' capacity to deliver water services is strengthened, which is in line with the constitutional devolution process. The programme is planned to continue until the end of 2020. The project is proposed to have 450 000 euro extra funding for 2020.
