Women and Girls First Programme

Description

UNFPA's Women and Girls Fist (WGF) Programme II ensures that people in Myanmar who are the furthest behind in conflict affected states realise their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and fulfill their potential through improved gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence (GBV). The project seeks to strengthen national systems for the protection and promotion of SRHR, including gender equality and the right to be free from violence, improve access to quality SRHR, GBV and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services as well as foster community resilience and social cohesion to ensure accountability to realise SRHR, GBV and MHPSS-related goals in the long-term. In the first phase UNFPA and partners have collected new data and conducted research, participated and led coordination mechanisms, and organised workshops, consultations and events. Awareness-raising and community mobilisation has been an appreciated feature of WGF, including engaging men and boys. Furthermore, over 200 000 conflict-affected women and girls accessed WGF-supported GBV and SRH information and services during 2016-2017. Finland supports the WGF Programme Phase II with 4 million euros during the years 2020-2022.
