Humanitarian assistance, Somalia

Description

Humanitarian and food security situation continues to be extremely fragile in Somalia. The humanitarian needs for 2015 are 863 million USD of which at the moment 37 % is covered. The needs for WFP are over 290 million USD of which covered at the moment 35,7 %. 855 000 people are estimated to be acutely food insecure and 308 000 children under the age of five are acutely malnourished. Overall 3,9 million people need life-saving support. The 2015 El Nino effect has caused flooding to large areas. In a country which is still recovering from the crisis in 2011, large scale flooding will have a devastating impact on food security and nutrition. Northern parts of the country are seeing one of the driest years in memory causing severe shortages of food and water and deaths of livestock.
