6th High-Level Retreat of Special Envoys and Mediators (AU)
Description
Sixth AU High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security and Stability in Africa, focusing specifically on "Terrorism, Mediation, and non-state armed groups" will be organized 21-22 October in Windhoek, Namibia. This African initiative to discuss, at the highest level, mediation and terrorism, signals an important opening that can set the future agenda for counter-terrorism in the continent. The Retreat will be hosted by the President of Namibia Hage Geingob together with the AUC Chairperson Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. Invitees include African Regional Economic Communities and Mechanisms, the United Nations, the European Union, The Arab League, AU's bilateral partners (including Finland) and researchers and academia. The goal of the Retreat is to promote high level political commitment to African peace processes and to get peace mediators in Africa to share their experiences and best practices with each other. The previous Retreats have in this regard been very successful.
