INT/UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities UNPRPD
Description
UN-agencies caring for the human rights of persons with disabilities (UNDP, Unicef, ILO, WHO, UN-DESA and OHCHR) founded the "UN Partnership to Promote the Rights of Persons with Disabilities , UNPRDD) in 2011 in the spirit of "One-UN". The UNPRPD is now the most effective way to promote the operationalization of the latest UN Human Rights instrument, Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in developing countries. Finland is member of the UNPRPD Policy Board. The Fund has created high quality administrative and management mechanisms (as part of UNDP structures). The first UNPRPD Financing Round was successfully implemented during 2012. Funding could be provided for 8 countries (340.000usd/country on average), and 8 more countries are on the "waiting list" and ready to mobilize their activities as soon as more donor funding will be raised to the Fund. The UNPRPD has a strong leveraging effect: For each euro the Fund can raise at least another euro from other funding sources.
