NP/Good work, healthy environment
Description
The project aims at strengthening rights and safety of forest trade union members and individual wood workers, and improve the ecological values of the forests in Nepal by educating wood workers on sustainable forest management and biodiversity protection. Increased memberships of forest trade unions and safe working conditions is also an objective. Capacity of government agencies and trade unions to advocate for policies is increased to support sustainable forestry to address climate change. Effective participation of the formal and informal forestry sector workers and local communities is essential to ensure successful implementation of sustainable forest management and biodiversity protection. Many workers working under community forest user groups (CFUG) are unorganised, which has resulted in problems with health and safety issues and rights of workers. In addition, workers lack knowledge on sustainable harvesting and other forest management methods.
