Gender and Mediation Training; pl. 1325

Promoting women’s effective participation in conflict mediation and addressing women’s specific needs in peacemaking and electoral assistance are part of DPA’s core mandate. However, in spite many global and regional commitments, the number of women and gender experts involved in formal peacemaking processes has remained low and only few peace agreements directly address gender-related issues or harness the resources women may provide to reach sustainable peace. To bridge the gap, DPA and UN Women launched a three-year Joint Gender & Mediation Strategy in 2011, aiming to enhance the gender and mediation capacities of envoys, teams and mediators.
