State aid for Human Rights training

Description

The Ministry awards state aid for the purpose of supporting at least 8 participants from development countries to participate in human rights training in Finland on a yearly basis. This training should support the strengthening of the human rights based approach to development, as well as promote the flagship objectives mentioned in the Human Rights Strategy of the Foreign Service of Finland as well as its crosscutting objectives. The State aid will be announced and processed in accordance the national legislation. The participants chosen among Ngo-workers, Ph.D. students, scholars, public officials and lawyers from developing countries are given an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of human rights, as well as of the mechanisms available to fulfil and protect them. The selection will be made by the university receiving state aid. In previous years the participants have possessed key positions in universities, governmental offices and non-governmental organizations. The participants come from ODA-eligible (the OECD list of development assistance countries, ODA-DAC) countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Therefore the training benefits mostly an enlarged group of people in developing countries.
