Managed aquifer recharge to ensure groundwater availability and quality in Vietnam
Description
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has identified Vietnam as one of the countries likely to be most affected by climate change, especially by sea level rise, changing precipitation and typhoon patterns and resulting changes in flood patterns. At the same time, strong economic growth, urbanization and growing population are causing a threat for sufficient water supply. The ICI project Viet MAR supports the application of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) to ensure sustainable water resource management in Vietnam. The Project contributes the targets and mission of the National Climate Change Strategy of Vietnam and supports on-going national groundwater projects. It supports Finland's country strategy in Vietnam, which aims at transition from grant-based development cooperation to more comprehensive partnership with increased trade. The project is implemented by the Geological Survey of Finland, the Center for Water Resources Warning and Forecast and the Sub-Institute of HydroMeteorology and Climate Change, Vietnam. Finland finances the project with 600 000 euros in 2018-2021.
