UNICEF/Humanitarian assistance to the Central African Republic
Description
Support, a total of one million euro, to UNICEF humanitarian operations in Central African Republic. UNICEF is a major humanitarian actor with responsibility of nutrition, WASH – water, sanitation and hygien, education, protection of children and elimination of gender based violence in humanitarian situations. Central African Republic (CAR) suffers from a prolonged political instability and related armed conflicts. The conflict affects the whole population, but the humanitarian action targets 1,6 million people according to the consolidated appeal. Children are particularly vulnerable. UNICEF operations include nutritional support to children under five years old, water and hygiene services, vaccination campaigns for children, basic health care and HIV treatment and prevention, child protection including family reunions and psychosocial support, and education. During 2013 the humanitarian situation has weakened and the UN consolidated appeal was increased in the mid-year review from the original 129 MUSD to 195 MUSD. UNICEF's share of the appeal is 32 MUSD. CAR is one of the most underfunded humanitarian appeals in 2013.
