Description
Syrian conflict is one of the biggest refugee crisis in the world. There are about 3,7 million refugees in the neighboring countries of Syria. In Jordan the number of refugees is over 600 000. Finnish Red Cross together with the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement started the Azraq hospital operation in 2013 by the request of the Jordan government. Hospital was opened in the autumn 2014. The objective of the hospital is to provide safe and quality secondary level health care for the Syrian refugees for free. The capacity to assist people is 20 000 which is the estimated number of refugees in Azraq in 2015. FRC is in the lead of operation in cooperation with German Red Cross, IFRC and Jordan Red Crescent. ECHO has financed the operation and is still going to finance a part of the year 2015. The grant provided to FCR ensures the operation of the hospital for two months.
