Fossil Fuel Subsidy Reform
Description
The aim of the project is to fund the Global Subsidies Initiaitive (GSI), which is part of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD). IISD is an ODA-eligible International Non-governmental Organisation, which Finland already funds. GSI promotes fossil fuel subsidy reform. Such reform advances global climate goals, the wiser use of public funds, as well as social justice as fossil fuel subsidies tend to be regressive. The focus in 2015 is on developing countries and the global climate process. GSI provides secretariat services to the Friends of Fossil Fuel Subsidy Reform group of countries, which Finland is a part of. GSI coordinates the groups' joint strategy, outreach activities, information sharing and -flow, cooperation with multilateral insitutions as well as the organisation of high-level and substantive events - with the goal of fossil fuel subsidy reform.
