Support to President Halonen's tasks concerning development policy, including co-chairing the High Level Task Force for ICPD

President Halonen leads and is a member of many international organizations and networks that work with sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, the status of women and girls, sexual and reproductive health and rights, democratic and good governance, and climate issues. This work contributes directly and indirectly to the objectives of the official Finnish development policy. Among other duties President Halonen is co-chair of the High-Level Task Force for ICPD, an alternate co-chair of the UN Secretary General’s high-level Advisory Group for Every Woman Every Child and the Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health, member of the advisory board of the World Development Report 2017, member of the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, member of the Alpbach-Laxenburg Group, member of Club de Madrid and member of the Board of Trustees of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights. She is also Drylands Ambassador of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and a UN Global Champion for Disaster Risk Reduction. In her development related work President Halonen receives support from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (KEO-40). The proposed project funds (40.000 euros) cover the travel expenses of President Halonen and the official supporting her work when these expenses are not covered by the organizing/inviting party.
