Description
Contribution to UN Women (UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women) regular resources. The General Assembly adopted a resolution on 2 July 2010 on system-wide coherence, establishing UN Women, to be operational at the beginning of year 2011. UN Women brings together the four pre-existing United Nations gender entities: UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women); DAW (Division for the Advancement of Women); INSTRAW (UN International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women), and OSAGI (Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women). UN Women works for the advancement of gender equality and women’s empowerment through its operational activities at country level. It also supports inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms and helps member states to implement them. Likewise, the entity is responsible for guiding the coordination on gender within the United Nations system
