Description
UNEP is the leading environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda and promotes environmentally sustainable development. UNEP has been strengthened after the Rio+20 conference including its coordinating role in the UN system on environmental issues, increased budget, universal membership and the establishment of the UN Environment Assembly. UNEP's subprogrammes focus on climate change, disasters and conflicts, ecosystem management, environmental governance, chemicals and waste, sustainable consumption and production & resource efficiency and environment under review. Finland's priorities with UNEP lie in strengthening UNEP's role as coordinator of environmental agenda in the UN system, implementation and follow-up of environmental aspects of the post-2015 development agenda and improved efficiency through results-based management. The 2015 payment to the Environment Fund is 6 MEUR. Finland is the third largest donor to the EF.
