Support to the IREX Europe for cooperation with Syrian Justice and Accountability Centre

Description

Syrian Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) has been established in 2012 to collect information and evidence relating to violations of human rights in Syria. SJAC receives technical support from International Research & Exchange Board (IREX) and Public International Law and Policy Group (PILPG). SJAC aims to close cooperation with all actors working on the violations to human rights (OHCHR, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International etc). Collected information can be used later to bring violators of human rights to justice or in arrangements like truth commissions. Centre will aim to be as transparent as possible in its actions. All violations to human rights brought to the attantion of SJAC will be collected to the data bank, which can be used by all parties. Informtaion will be collected from different sources, which makes the verification of information more reliable. This public demonstration of violations aims also to have deterrent effect, ie awareness about the fact that violations to human rights will be systematically recorded can affect the actions by those participating in the war operations.
