UNHCR/humanitarian aid to the Ukraine situation
Description
Humanitarian aid to the Ukraine situation via UNHCR, the UN agency responsible for refugees. The need for humanitarian assistance in Ukraine has grown rapidly after June 2014 due to the hostilities in the Donbas area in Eastern Ukraine. Around five million people are in need of humanitarian assistance due to the crisis. The United Nations increased its inter-agency appeal (Strategic Response Plan) for Ukraine to 316 million USD in February. The UNHCR's supplementary appeal for the Ukraine situation in 2015 is 41,5 million euros. There are over one million internally displaced people (IDP) in Ukraine and the figure is expected to rise. Around 600 000 people have sought refuge in the neighbouring countries. UNHCR's priority is to offer protection to the displaced and other conflict-affected people. It also addresses the life-saving needs of the most vulnerable people.
