ESA - Empowering Women Local Council Candidates for Inclusive Local Governance
Description
The project will foster inclusive governance and development at the local level by empowering marginalized voices in local governance as competent local officials and advocates for political pluralism and inclusion. Women in the Nile Delta will be trained to run for local councils, developing a mode of leadership which is responsive to the needs of all community groups. Initial parts of the training will discuss the foundations for leadership, including women’s role in society, volunteerism, citizenship, and human rights. They will be trained in skills such planning, budgeting, project management, and oversight, with cross-cutting themes of inclusion, sensitivity and democracy. Participants will involve community members as key actors in local development. They will be trained to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders and advocate for their needs, using these skills as tools to build community cohesion and reach compromise for inclusive and correspondingly sustainable local development.
