UNHCR, regional humanitarian aid to the Syrian crisis
Description
Support, a total amount of 3.8 million euro in addition to the 2 million euro contributed in 2013, to the Syrian refugee crisis through UNHCR. Response to the Syria Regional Response Plan, which responds to the needs of over two million refugees who have fled to the neighbouring countries. The UN Refugee Agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. The Syrian humanitarian crisis affects a growing number of the country's 21.4 million population. In the beginning of October 2013 the number of Syrian refugees amounted to 2.1 million and 4.25 million people were internally displaced in Syria. Approximately half of the refugees are children. The total need of humanitarian assistance, including the Syria Humanitarian Assistance Response Plan (SHARP) and the Syria Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRP), is 4.4 billion USD, which is about one third of the global humanitarian needs in 2013 and the largest UN appeal in history. UNHCR's share of the appeals is a total of 1.42 billion USD.
