INT/Support of environment movements in developing countries
Description
Siemenpuu Foundation supports civil society organisations in developing countries working for environmental protection and global dialogue. The Foundation has provided project funding since 2002. Financial support is channelled directly to CSOs and social movements with an emphasis on sustainable use and management of natural resources, and strengthening democratic decision-making processes working towards sustainable governance of natural resources. The aim is to empower local communities, strengthen civil society and support creation of ecologically and socially sustainable practices. Siemenpuu Foundation channels 70-90% of its project funding through seven cooperation programmes in India, Indonesia, Mekong Region, Mali and Latin America. In addition, a new cooperation progamme is under planning in 2012 and 2013. Part of the funding is allocated to projects that are topical or applied by the partners of Siemenpuu's founding organisations.
