Consolidated WASH Account

Consolidated WASH Account is financing the implementation of One WASH National Programme (OWNP) of the Ethiopian government. OWNP is supported through different channels. The government of Ethiopia hopes, however, that donors would direct their support to the programme through Consolidated WASH Account (CWA), managed by the government. Financing OWNP through CWA would help harmonizing the various donor supported interventions in the sector and support Ethiopia's own projects in the sector. Ethiopian government acknowledges that developing WASH (water-, sanitation and hygiene) is important in poverty reduction and OWNP implements the goals of Growth and Transformation Plan II. OWNP and CWA do not only aim to increase the coverage of water and sanitation services, but also to strengthen efficiency. Attention is given specifically to improve coordination between water- education and health sectors. By supporting the CWA, Finland will become a Board member of the fund and can influence to the decisions of the fund. Finland wants to specifically promote adoption of Community Managed Project (CMP) approach in the projects supported by the CWA. Finland's support is 2 million euros 2016-2019; 2016 500 000 euros, 2018 500 000 euros and 2019 1000 000 euros. Ethiopia belongs to least developed countries.
