UNHCR, humanitarian assistance to the country operation in Chad

The UNHCR country operation in Chad has expanded rapidly due to the deteriorated humanitarian situation in the neighbouring countries, which has increased the amount of refugees in Chad to nearly half a million. There are also over 330 000 returnees and internally displaced persons in Chad. The lack of financing is hampering all humanitarian work in the country. UNHCR needs 230 mln USD for its operation in Chad this year of which only a quarter has been covered.
