INT/Further Education Course on Sustainable Communities
Description
The Ministry has been funding the Sustainable Communities course that has been organized by the Aalto University in collaboration with UN-HABITAT. Due to the change of the legal status of Finnish universities, the organizer was re-selected in 2011 by using an open tendering process. A new contract between the Ministry and the Aalto University was made in 2012 covering the 2012 course but including also an option for another course to be organized in 2013 (1+1 principle). In 2013 the course was organized in March in Tanzania. The aim of the course is to give practical examples and methods how to use urban planning as a tool for sustainable development focusing especially on the linkages between urban planning and climate change. It aims to bridge the knowledge between academia, local and central government in the field of sustainable urban planning.
