Support of Finland to Control Arms
Description
In developing countries, especially in Africa, regional and local conflicts hamper development. Illegal and uncontrolled flows of arms negatively impact security and stability on regional and local level and hamper economic and social progress. Goal 16.4 of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development aims at significantly reducing illicit arms flow by the year 2030. Arms Trade Treaty is an important instrument in achieving this goal. According to the Treaty, all Participating States should develop regulatory framework and capacity on national basis. Control Arms Coalition brings together about 300 non-governmental organisations from different countries including in the developing world. It aims at strengthening the implementation and ratification of the ATT. The main focus of the program is to support the ATT monotorin of the implementation of the ATT and the ATT Academy activity. The project supports the objectives of the Finnish ATT Presidency.
