Description
The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) is an intergovernmental organization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide. International IDEA’s mission is to support sustainable democratic change by providing comparative knowledge, and assisting in democratic reform, and influencing policies and politics. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, it has offices in Africa, Asia, Latin America and West Asia/North Africa regions as well as in New York (UN), Brussels (EU) and in the Hague (Constitution building). IDEA has field operations in ca. 20 developing countries. The organization works in close co-operation with the United nations and promotes an Inter-Regional Dialogue on Democracy with regional organisations like the African Union, the Arab League, the Organisation of American States and the European Union. Finland´s core contribution for the year 2015 is 1 100 000 euros. The contribution is voluntary. According to the IDEA statutes "members are engouraged to support the Institute by annual contributions".
