Finnish support to Water Supply & Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC)

Description

Water Supply & Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) is a global multi-stakeholder partnership which focuses on improving sanitation and hygiene among the poorest. WSSCC's activities are divided to the implementation of sustainable and safe sanitation on a country-level under the Global Sanitation Fund (GSF) and to knowledge management, advocacy and information activities under the Sanitation Leadership Trust Fund (SLTF). UNOPS serves as a legal host organization for WSSCC. WSSCC works predominantly in rural settings in Africa and Asia. WSSCC operates in line with the Community Lead Total Sanitation (CLTS) model. It does not fund sanitation infrastructure, but focuses on behavioral change through education and advocacy. Finland has contributed 1 MEUR annual non-earmarked support to the implementation of WSSCC's Medium-Term Strategic Plan 2012-2016 since 2012. During the period of Finland's funding, WSSCC has succeeded in creating Open Defecation Free (ODF) environments in GSF programme countries and conducted successful global advocacy work in the area of menstrual hygiene management. It is proposed that Finland will contribute 500 000 EUR non-earmarked support to the implementation of WSSCC's Medium-Term Strategic Plan 2012-2016 for 2016. http://wsscc.org/
