Widening Access to Justice for Legal Empowerment in the Kyrgyz Republic, phase II

Rule of Law Project of the UNDP is continuation for the phase I project that was implemented in 2014-2017. Main achievements of the phase one are opening of Government free legal aid centers covering also civil cases, support to the drafting of law on domestic violence, promotion of ratification of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and promotion of legal awareness of officials and population. Main beneficiaries have been vulnerable groups of remote areas, such as rural women and people with disabilities. The legal awareness and access to justice of these groups is often weak. In phase II the project will continue the work started in phase I. One of the main aims is to secure sustainability of free legal aid system after Finnish funding has ended. New national free legal aid center will be established under the Ministry of Justice. Its personnel will be trained and its quality standards developed. Members of the civil society and media will be given legal education and/or information. Project budget is 1,7 million euro for 2018-21.
