CGIAR - cooperation on agricultural research and education
Description
The programme is continuation to FoodAfrica research and development programme funded with 9,5 million Euros between the years 2011-16 in Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Senegal and Uganda. The programme purpose is to disseminate and communicate the research results of the first project phase to farmers and agricultural stakeholders in programme countries, as well as to strengthen their capacities to sustainably improve food security. The overall objective/impact is improved food and nutrition security, and through that livelihoods of small-scale farmers and vulnerable groups in programme countries and regionally. Support to FoodAfrica II is 1 million Euros between the years 2016-18. The final beneficiaries are small-scale farmers in the programme countries and local research institutes and universities. They will be reached through the intermediary beneficiaries, namely farmer organizations and cooperatives, extension organizations (government and NGOs), volunteer farmer trainers, dairy cooperatives and private sector. The programme is coordinated by Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). Main implementation partners are four centers of the CGIAR (Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers: ICRAF, ILRI, IFPRI and Bioversity), University of Helsinki and HAMK University of Applied Sciences. The programme cooperates with a large network of local partners and stakeholders, such as the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), national agricultural research institutions, local universities, agricultural producers’ organizations and private sector actors.
