Capacity building on novel approaches in sustainable management of forest and wood resources in Mozambique 2016-2018
Description
Forecas 2 is implemented as a institutional cooperation jointly by Luke (Natural Resources Institute in Finland) and IIAM (Agrarian Research Institute of Mozambique) and UEM-FAEF (Faculty of Agronomy and Forest Engineering of Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique) in 2016-2018 and its size is 700 000 euros. The objective of the project is to improve; 1) Knowledge on the value chains of lesser-utilized wood species for small-sized business and industries increased, 2) Improved utilization of the wood laboratory facilities at IIAM and UEM-FAEF, and 3) Improved information dissemination and promotion of national and regional networking of IIAM and UEM-FAEF. The research capacity building on value chains of wood and other forest products, as well as more efficient use of the wood laboratory facilities, contribute for defining policies for sustainable management and utilization of forest resources. Forecas 2 -project will start with an Inception Phase (4 months) during which the Project Plan will be further elaborated. In Forecas I (2012-2015) the project supported research on forest growth and yield and dissemination of results. The project established permanent sample plots, increased capacity in statistical analysis, improved information dissemination and data management, and established a wood technology laboratory for growth, yield and tree-ring studies.
