The humanitarian situation in Yemen has deteriorated sharply in 2015 due to extensive fighting. 80 %, 21,1 million, of Yemenis are requiring humanitarian assistance and 1,4 million people are displaced. The International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC protects and assists affected populations by providing emergency assistance and medical care. ICRC calls the parties to the conflicts to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians. ICRC visits prisons and supports the improvement of living conditions of prisoners. Finnish Red Cross supports the overall Red Cross response through supporting ICRC operation with cash contribution, providing assistance material and staff.
