Support to the Institute of Social and Economic Research
Description
The Finnish support to IESE, Institute of Social and Economic Research, is a component of the Finnish Good Governance Programme in Mozambique. Through research IESE promotes social, political and economic development in Mozambique and Southern Africa. IESE has three strategic priorities: 1) Consolidate and deepen research, 2) Value the research through social and academic intervention and 3) Guarantee institutional development and sustainability. IESE's scientific work is divided in three thematic priorities: Economy and Development, Poverty and Social Protection and finally Poverty and Social Protection". IESE receives its' support through basket funding-modality. Finland started its financial support to IESE in 2009. According to the independent Mid-term review (on strategy 2012-2015) IESE's work has been effective having impact on the national legislation, political decision making and public debate, among others. The output of IESE in terms of publications, dissemination activities, participation in seminars and discussion platforms is considerable and the IESE produces good value for money. Finland's contribution is 500.000€ / year. With the highest contribution Finland acts as lead donor in the Common Fund donor group. Finland's total contribution for the years 2016-2018 is 1,5 million euros, 500.000 euros per year.
