Description
"MANAGING AND AVOIDING TRADE CONFLICTS BY STRENGTHENING LEGAL CAPACITY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES - A South-South Approach to Capacity Building" ia a 3-year project by the ICTSD and ACWL in cooperation with the WTO. The project aims at strengthening domestic legal capacity in developing countries to manage and – where possible – avoid trade related conflicts. This will be achieved through a series of regional and sectoral workshops consisting of training courses and South-South dialogues between developing countries with different level of expertise in the field of trade law. Particular emphasis will rest on realising the potential of regional economic integration and of South-South exchange of experiences and best-practices. All activities will be linked to regular WTO training activities. In addition, the proposal foresees the development of an ICTSD Guide Book on Managing and Avoiding Disputes to guide governmental and non-governmental actors in their practical, day-to-day efforts to manage trade conflicts at the domestic level. The project budget is 1,101,000 Swiss francs which is 914,000 Euros.
