Support to Syrian Justice & Accountability Center (SJAC)

Syrian Justice & Accountability Center (SJAC) aims to produce a complete repository of comprehensive, high-quality, and usable documentation that is prepared to feed into justice mechanisms, but also used to drive justice discourse among Syrians and the international community. SJAC has during its three years of existence developed into leading documenter of Syrian human rights violations. SJAC aims to document all violations, by any party but in its analysis it concentrates on 1) sexual and gender-based violence; 2) violations by ISIL; 3) violations on detainees and conditions on detain centers. The beneficiaries of the project are all victims and survivors of human rights violations in Syria. Especially women, victims of sexual violence, former detainees, minorities, opposition politicians and human rights defenders. SJAC has been established in 2012 as part of the work of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People (FoSP) and it has so far been hosted and supported by IREX (an US NGO). SJAC is supposed to attain its full independence during 2016. Project is well aligned with the Finnish development policy of 2016 and the peace building policy. Finland has supported SJAC before, in 2012 with EUR 170.000.
