Supporting the work of a gender adviser at the regional Office

Finland has started supporting the work of a gender adviser at the regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights OHCHR located in Beirut in year 2010. Adviser's work aims to enhance and pormote the women's human rights and fundamental freedoms. Adviser has for the past two years offered support to the governments, international organizations and civil society organizations and ensured that all OHCHR activities in the region have women's rights as cross cutting objectives. The work has started well and recent political events have paved way to new opportunities in the adviser's work field. At the same time it is clear that challenges remain. The unit for the Middle East and North Africa propose to continue the support for the gender adviser's work for the next three years.
