UN Women Women, Peace and Security in the Arab States - Phase II

UN Women's programme bolsters implementation capacity on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and ensures that the needs and priorities of women and girls affected by conflicts are met and addressed. At the institutional level, the programme supports the effective resourcing, monitoring and implementation of four National Action Plans (Tunisia, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq) and one regional action plan (the Arab League). At the community level, the programme implements effective strategies to prevent violent extremism and build community cohesion. At the individual level, 12,000 women and girls are supported through protection services. Finland's contribution in 2019 - 2021 is EUR 3 900 000. During the first phase of the programme (2016-2018), clear demonstrated results were achieved. The results include the development and passage of NAPs in Jordan and Tunisia and in Lebanon the NAP 1325 is almost developed. In Iraq, the implementation of NAP 1325 was supported and protection was provided for women and girls affected by conflict. In addition, a monitoring and reporting framework for the League of Arab States's Executive Action Plan on women, peace and security was finalized. These are huge accomplishment in a region with only one NAP 1325 at the time of the inception of the first phase of the programme.
