New Deputy Director General to the Department for Development Policy

On Thursday 17 March, the Government appointed a new Deputy Director General.

Juha Savolainen

 The Government promoted Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Juha Savolainen to the public office of Counsellor for Foreign Affairs starting on 11 April 2022 and appointed him to the post of Deputy Director General of the Department for Development Policy for a fixed term from 11 April 2022 to 31 August 2026.

Savolainen will move to the new position from the Department for Africa and the Middle East, where he has served as Director of the Unit for Southern and Western Africa since 2018. In 2016–2018, Savolainen worked as Director of Unit for Consular Assistance. He has also served in the Department for Asia and the Americas, the Department for International Trade, and in the Diplomatic Service in Pretoria and Brazil.

Savolainen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2002. He holds the degree of Master of Public Affairs from Princeton University.
