Asunmaa appointed Director General of the Department for the Americas and Asia

On 27 June, the Government appointed Piritta Asunmaa to serve as Director General of the Department for the Americas and Asia at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The post will be a fixed-term appointment ending on 31 August 2023.

Piritta Asunmaa will transfer to the Ministry from the Permanent Mission of Finland to NATO, where she has worked since 2015. Asunmaa has been Finland's representative in the EU's Political and Security Committee (PSC/COPS) in Brussels and, from 2005 to 2009, she served at Finland's Mission to NATO.

In the Diplomatic Service, Asunmaa has held posts at the Embassies of Finland in Washington and Paris. At the Ministry, Asunmaa has served, for example, as Deputy Director of the Department of Communications and Culture and Special Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Asunmaa joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1992.
