Elections and human rights in Tanzania
Description
The programme aims at promoting human rights and citizen participation in electoral processes in Tanzania in 2019 local and 2020 general elections. The programme is implemented by a consortium of 22 civil society organizations (Tanzania Civil Society Consortium on Election Observation, TACCEO) led by a Tanzanian human rights organization Legal and Human Rights Center (LHRC). It´s main objective is improved free and fair electoral processes. The programme activities focus mainly on civic and voter education and domestic electoral observation. The elections programme is part of the implementation of the LHRC comprehensive Strategic Plan and its outcome nro 2.5. Small part of the support will be allocated to general human rights work of LHRC. Beneficiaries of the support are citizens, who pariticipate in voter education and have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process and people who benefit from the overall human rights work of LHRC. The support is a discretionary government grant and its maximum amount is 1.500.000 euros for the years 2019-2021.
