The associated costs of a WFP grain shipment from Ukraine to Somalia

Finland supports with 6 512 400 euros the associated costs of a WFP chartered vessel, which will deliver a grain shipment from Ukraine to Somalia. This grain was donated by Ukraine to WFP, but Ukraine can’t cover the associated costs. Food assistance is directed to Somalia, which is in acute need of it. Four consecutive years of dryness have made the food security situation alarming. WFP estimates that approx. 6,7 million people, almost half of the country’s population, are suffering from acute lack of food. The Finnish contribution for the grain shipment is estimated to provide aid to approx.. 200 000 people.
