Data Governance in Sub-Saharan Africa -programme
Description
The Data Governance Team Europe initiative is part of the EU-AU Data Flagship initiative launched by the EU and AU at their summit in February 2022, which aims to promote an inclusive data-based economy and society. The DGov project is an initiative resulting from the cooperation of the EU and its member countries' Digital Development Hub (D4D Hub). The initiative aims to 1) strengthen comprehensive and unified policies and rules regarding personal and other information, 2) promote cross-border data communication to create business opportunities and experiment with regional regulatory environments, 3) promote partnerships for the development of green and secure data infrastructure. Finland's funding is specifically targeted at component 3. Finland's funding for the program is 3.0 million euros for the years 2023 – 2025. The budget for the entire program is 58.1 million euros. Other financiers are the EU €30.4m, Germany €20.0m, France €2.3m, Belgium €2.2m and Estonia €0.25m. The Data Governance initiative supports sustainable development, especially goal 9 sustainable industry, innovation and infrastructure, but significantly also sustainable goals 5, 13, 16 and 17.
